An exciting non-canon twist is now available in the Friday the 13th franchise and it features a star from an earlier film in the series. Actress Adrienne King, who acted in Friday the 13th: Part II, returns in a new fan-written film called Jason Rising. The film is directed by super-fan and indie actor James Sweet in collaboration with filmmakers Vincente DiSanti (Never Hike Alone) and Robert Blanche (Portlandia), among others.
Clocking in at just over an hour, the Friday the 13th film is a reinterpretation of an early franchise storyline. King's original role in the second film abruptly comes to an end when she is naturally murdered by Jason Voorhees halfway through the film. In the new movie, she plays a character named Alice Hardy who is very much alive and ready to take on the deadly Voorhees family head-on.

The premise of Jason Rising centers around police officer Pete Daltry (Kyle Vahan) and his Deputy Eve Glover (Anna Campbell), along with two U.S. Marshals Jed (Jason Reynolds) and Bear (Jerry Bell Jr.). The group works desperately to find three escapees (Lisa Sorenson, Jennie Vaughn, Elizabeth Garrett) from the Wessex County Corrections Farm. The chase leads them to Camp Crystal Lake, where the authorities and escapees alike are tormented and hunted by Jason Voorhees (Dan Kyle) and his psychotic and undead mother Patricia (Alyxandria McCormack). There is only one hope to stop the twisted mother and son duo: the scorned and hot-blooded Alice Hardy.
The independent reinterpretation offers a fresh and bloody look at the franchise that fans have not received in a while. Released in 2009, the last remake of Friday the 13th was a critical failure and left some fans desiring more. With no discussion of more films in the future, the Hollywood side of the Friday the 13th franchise has seemingly retired. Meanwhile, fans have taken matters into their own hands with this exciting self-funded effort to bring fun and camp (no pun intended) back into the fan-favorite horror series.
Some fans have expressed that the Friday the 13th film series, along with other popular horror franchises such as Scream and Halloween, should have ended decades ago. Others embrace the attempt to keep nostalgia and classic horror favorites alive. This new film comes just in time for the beginning of the fall season.
