After sharing a new image of the tech demo, The Coalition said, "We're excited to be participating in this year's GDC with presentations focusing on Visual Effects and, the Alpha Point UE5 demo! Tune into GDC21 July 19 – 23 for the latest in modern game development from Microsoft."

Although it was previously thought that Alpha Point was just a tech demo to show off the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5, several rumours have popped up that suggest that it might be a new IP from the Coalition.

The first of these rumours popped up shortly after the tech demo was announced to be shown off at GDC. GamesBeat's Jeff Grubb said, "turns out that other game is exactly what the blog makes it sound like. It is them getting used to Unreal Engine 5. It's an experiment to mess with Unreal Engine 5, it's gonna be smaller. It'll still take some time but it's gonna be a small offshoot that doesn't involve necessarily Gears."

More recently than that, a LinkedIn profile for The Coalition level designer Pedro Camacho D'Andrea was updated to show that they'd been designing levels for a "new IP" over the past few months, as reported by Windows Central. The post was later updated to remove the reference to a new IP.

The LinkedIn post all but confirms that The Coalition is working on something new, although it remains to be seen whether or not that is related to the Alpha Point tech demo, or if that's a separate thing entirely. Previously The Coalition has said that it will be some time before it releases anything next-gen, although the rumoured release year of 2023 does line up with that statement.
