Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut – How To Find The Saragumi Armour

Saragumi armour is one of the best new unlockables in Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut, earned as part of a new questline where you’ll be fighting mongols, exploring ancient caves, and going up against a legendary warrior.

The reward for your troubles are worth it, with the armour providing larger windows for parry and counters, while slowing down time when you manage to perform a perfect block in order to execute a sequence of deadly attacks. In short – it rules.

To begin the Saragumi questline you will need to have arrived in Fune’s Refuge after progressing through the Iki Island expansion’s main story. Once here and advancing through cutscenes, you will be free to explore at your leisure. Now, go and speak to the man telling stories to a crowd to the right of Fune’s base of operations.

Like a number of blue tales in the main game, talking to him will launch you into a gorgeous animated sequence that will provide some background information on the Saragumi armour and exactly what you need to do and where you need to go in order to advance the quest. Sit down and relax, since you’ll need to know some of this stuff.

Once storytime is over, exit Fune’s Refuge until you receive a waypoint asking you to travel to Mount Takenotsuji in search of Minato, a young woman in possession of the information you need to find Black Hand Riku. You will encounter her being harassed by bandits, so prepare yourself for a battle. Dispatch the mongols and talk with her, and she will provide the next piece of information you need to keep moving forward.

After talking with Minato and resting at the campfire at nightfall, you will need to follow the marker until you discover a glowing body of water lingering beneath a couple of cliffs – it’s only a few hundred metres from where you find Minato, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble. It’s also gorgeous, the shining body of water awfully hard to miss if you’re willing to do some exploration. Once there, prepare yourself for a climb.

Find a safe way to traverse down into the water, there’s a number of climbing platforms and grapple points you can make use of. As you drop into the water, a line of dialogue from Jin will indicate that you need to follow the light, hinting at the sparkling water beneath you. A bunch of monkeys will also be helping you head in the right direction. Before long, keep an eye on the left and you will glimpse a cave being lit by torchlight. Now head inside.

The cave itself is huge and shrouded in darkness, so keep lighting braziers and picking up treasure and supplies along the way. After climbing ladders and working your way through a handful of wooden doors, you will eventually come across Black Hand Riku himself – now get ready for a duel. This is a tough fight, with Riku capable of killing Jin in a couple of strikes if you aren’t accurately blocking and performing parries.

After he’s killed, Jin will automatically equip the armour and you will be able to head outside. However, the man who originally described the tale of Black Hand Riku to you will turn up with some friends to kill you and take the armour for himself. This is a great chance to test out the Saragumi armour’s abilities, and feels deliberately build to do so.
