Gran Turismo 7 Requires An Internet Connection For Single-Player

Gran Turismo 7 will require an internet connection for its single-player modes, according to some small-print on a recent PlayStation Blog.

After years of waiting, Gran Turismo fans were finally treated to a gameplay showcase for Gran Turismo 7 during the PlayStation Showcase. Despite diving into the game’s many modes and features, the trailer missed out one important piece of information – you’ll need an internet connection to access any of it, even the single-player content.

As spotted by Push Square, a PlayStation Blog post that details some of Gran Turismo 7’s game modes also reveals that it will need an internet connection to play seemingly every mode in the game. Attached to each game mode is an asterisk, and right at the bottom of the page is the small print that says “these features require internet connection”.

You might initially think that maybe one or two of the modes require an internet connection, but it’s every single mode listed in the blog. That means the Livery Editor, Scapes, Trial Mountain, High-Speed Ring, GT Cafe, and GT Auto all require the player to be connected to the internet to experience.

For Gran Turismo fans this might not come as too much of a surprise considering Gran Turismo Sport also required a constant internet connection. The difference there is that Sport was advertised with some of those online features in mind, and as a spin-off from the main series of games, whereas Gran Turismo 7 is the next main entry in the series and hasn’t had its online features pushed so much. It also simply shouldn’t be the case for single-player modes.

Gran Turismo has always been pretty cutting-edge with its technology and use of online games modes, but it also has its fair share of players who simply want to play it online and experience it in their own way. Sony’s choice here to hide the online requirements in a PlayStation Blog with a barely noticeable asterisk is going to cause some backlash not that it’s been spotted.
