Halo Infinite’s First Multiplayer Match Shows Off Massive Customization Options

Yesterday, 343 Industries developers livestreamed the first fully recorded games of Halo Infinite. The gameplay looked slick, smooth, and fast, just like Halo fans will remember from back in the day (or even the current day, thanks to the Master Chief Collection).

There was also plenty of cosmetic customization on display. 343's head of design Jerry Hook discussed all the new skins and add-ons at length during his portion of the livestream, showcasing just how far Halo has come in terms of personalization.

At the core of Halo Infinite's customization is the appropriately named Armor Core. The example shown in the livestream is the "Mark VII," which appeared to be the standard-issue Spartan armor, but that's hardly the only option that will be available when Halo Infinite launches.

Hook described the Armor Core as the overall theme for your Spartan, comparing it to stepping inside a modern military vehicle. "When you take a look at Spartan armor, it's like strapping on an F-22," said Hook. "Or maybe you want a set of armor that is like an M1 Abrams tank. Each one of those vehicles is unique and has a unique character."

While the Armor Core describes your Spartan's overall look, nearly every aspect of that armor can be customized, from shoulder pads to visor color. You can also add small flourishes and accents like ammo packs and throwing knives to give your Spartan that extra bit of character.

We also got to see Body Type customizations that will allow you to cycle through several preset body shapes for your Spartan and also replace various limbs with high-tech prosthetics–a first for the Halo franchise.

Personal AIs was another big reveal for the livestream, with Hook showing how to cycle through various shapes, colors, and voices for who will narrate your Halo Infinite adventure.

"This is the biggest thing–we have so many things in which you can really express yourself the way you want to,” Hook said, “and even your AI sidekick is yours to express. It's yours to make yours."

Halo Infinite’s technical beta starts today and runs until August 2. For the full list of playtimes, head over to the Halo Waypoint website.
