Hitman 3 Developer is Working on Adding Ray-Tracing Support on Xbox Series X/S

Hitman 3 is already a pretty good looking game, but it’s due for even more visual enhancements down the road. Developer IO Interactive had confirmed before the game’s launch that it would be adding ray-tracing to the game on PC following its release, and it seems PC players won’t be the only ones who can look forward to that.

In an interview with Xbox Wire, IO Interactive chief technology officer Maurizio de Pascale confirmed that the developer is working on adding ray-tracing to the game on Xbox Series X and Series S as well, and that the game’s recent launch is just the first step in its live service model. “We see Hitman as a ‘live game’ and our launch date on January 20 is just the beginning of a journey, in which we’re going to keep working on the game and adding new features,” de Pascale said. “It’s great that the GPU in the Series X|S has hardware support for Ray-Tracing. We’ve already started working on RT technology for the renderer in our Glacier engine, and once that’s deemed ready for prime time, we’ll definitely bring it to the Series X|S hardware.”

There’s no mention of the game’s PS5 version- but of course, there wouldn’t be, since this is an interview with Microsoft on the official Xbox blog. Given the fact that the PS5 is also capable of hardware ray-tracing, one would assume that Hitman 3 will be receiving ray-tracing support on the Sony console as well.

Hitman 3 is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC, Stadia, and as a cloud-exclusive release on Switch. The game has enjoyed the biggest digital launch in Hitman history.
