Hollow Knight: Silksong Should Explore These Biome Types

It is a popular habit for video game developers to make games filled with all sorts of locations to explore, each with their own species of flora and fauna that have evolved by adapting to the environment. Sometimes these biomes are adaptations of those that can be found on Earth, and other times biomes vary based on the setting of the story, with fantasy and sci-fi narratives likely featuring very different areas between one another. Hollow Knight is often praised as one of the best indie games ever made, especially within the metroidvania and Souls-like genres, and Team Cherry included lots of biomes in the final product, making gameplay varied and interesting at all times. Now, Hollow Knight: Silksong is expected to do as much.

As a matter of fact, among the new areas that will become available within the realm of Pharloom in Hollow Knight: Silksong, there are already new biomes that were not included in the first installment of the series. Very little is currently known about the game so far, so this is something that might change when Silksong is finally released, and it should also be noted that information on each area is quite scarce as of now.

Still, Silksong is seemingly going to feature a lava-filled area that is known as Lake of Fire, another fiery area where many forges can be found called Deep Docks, and similar zones were not seen before in Hollow Knight. This leaves room for more unique biomes in Silksong.

One of the biomes that Hollow Knight never really delved into is someplace cold, with a wintry climate, and either snow or ice covering the soil. This could be a very interesting setting for at least one zone in Hollow Knight: Silksong, not only because of what it could look like in the game and the lore behind it, but also in terms of enemy types and challenges to tackle. In Silksong, Hornet's journey is opposite to the Knight's in the first game, as it is ascending rather than descending. Because of this, it could be easier to justify a colder area lore-wise because temperatures tend to lower in higher places, even though little is known about the Citadel of Pharloom.

Another uncharted biome in the first game is the desert, be it on the surface or below the ground. An underground desert could very well be possible in Silksong by having a surface-level area from which excess sand fills subterranean caves, forcing the bugs living there to change their way of life and adapt. Such an environment could lead to interesting encounters, maybe featuring dung beetles launching boulders at Hornet, or maybe scorpions or scarabs opposing her in more creative ways. It remains to be seen if this biome would make sense in Pharloom, though.

While not technically in line with other biomes per se, having Silksong explore how bugs survive in the prairies would be fascinating, to say the least. The tall grass found in plains could hinder sight and make it more difficult to see, with Hornet having to jump higher to understand where she is going. The enemies could be mosquitos and wasps, in a way to mirror both the Gruz Mother and the Moss Mother fights from Hollow Knight and Silksong, respectively. There could be larvae as minor enemies, more variety with other enemy types such as ladybugs and spiders. Overall, there are lots of other biomes that Hollow Knight: Silksong might cover, and experimenting with more of them than the original game is a good idea to help it stand out.
