Horizon Forbidden West Launches In February 2022

As expected, Guerrilla Games has unveiled an update on Horizon Forbidden West at Gamescom 2021. We can finally confirm that the game is set to launch on February 18, 2022.

Following on from Aloy's original adventure in Zero Dawn, Forbidden West takes us… well, west, obviously. While it retains all the robot dinosaurs and techno-fantasy setting from the first game, this is an all-new odyssey that sees our heroine venture to a relatively unspoiled part of this post-apocalyptic world. For what it's worth, this new setting is packed with all kinds of fascinating lore – we may even see an apperance from the OG Shadow Carja.

After being originally on track for a holiday launch – and supposedly entering the "final stages of development" back in JuneHorizon Forbidden West was delayed until 2022. This is largely unsurprising given how hard the games industry was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, Horizon Forbidden West managed to become the most watched State of Play of all time in just one day earlier this summer. People are obviously excited for Aloy's next adventure – something that has largely been helped by the Nora archer's upcoming appearance in RPG behemoth Genshin Impact, which people are largely divided about. Meanwhile, other Horizon heads got mad about Aloy's cheeks, because gamers. It's warm in the Forbidden West – she has sunburn.

If you're worried about whether you'll be able to run Forbidden West without a PS5, fear not: back in June, it was confirmed that most of the development and playtesting were conducted with PS4 performance in mind, so even base editions of last-gen consoles shouldn't sound like an angry Snapjaw every time you boot up the game.

Horizon Forbidden West is scheduled to launch for PS4 and PS5 on February 18, 2022 – here's hoping we get a robot fellbeast, or at the very least some kind of proper shark machine.
