How Long Does It Take To Beat God of War?

Sony Santa Monica blew PlayStation fans away with its 2018 release of God of War. Not only did it revitalize a dying franchise, but it brought in new players with a compelling new look at Kratos. Moreover, the gameplay shifted from hack and slash to a souls-like playstyle.

That means the pace of the game slowed down and became more methodical. God of War is more challenging than its predecessors, but it is also less linear. This open-level design gives players plenty of options on how they want to proceed through the story. The question remains, how long does it take to beat God of War?

How Long Does It Take To Complete The Main Storyline?

If you stick to the main quests and avoid any side content, the average time to beat the main storyline is 21 to 22 hours.

If you play the game casually, balancing the story with some side quests, you can expect to beat God of War in around 30 hours. This playstyle is the best way to play the game the first time, even if you are going for the platinum.

How Long Does It Take To Complete The Entire Game/Platinum?

For the completionist or trophy hunters out there, you will be spending at least another ten hours in the game. The average time to complete every mission and collectible in God of War is around 53 hours. If you use a guide, you can probably knock that number down to the 40-hour mark.

Fortunately, completing the entire game does not require a second playthrough. So, going for the platinum can be done in one go, and all collectibles are findable in the endgame content.

If you’re lucky enough to have a PlayStation 5, you can play God of War in the PlayStation Plus Collection for free, included in your PlayStation Plus subscription.
