The Animal Crossing: New Horizons version 2.0 update isn’t just about Kapp’n, Brewster and Gyroids – though it is a lot about those – it’s also about making some great quality of life changes to the game. In particular, you can now have an ABD cash point and access to your home’s storage when you’re running around your island. No more needing to head indoors!
But how do you get them? And where should you put them once you’ve unlocked the storage sheds? Let’s break it down.
Where to get the outdoor ABD
Once updated to version 2.0, the outdoor ABD can be immediately bought from the Nook Stop terminal in the Resident Services building. Just head to the Nook Stop, then the Nook Miles Redemption scheme, and scroll down until you see the ABD. It can be purchased for a cool 9,900 Miles and will be delivered in the mail the next day.
Buy the outdoor ABD from the Nook Stop using Nook Miles.
Once you have it in the game world, our personal recommendation would be to place it near to where you’re most likely to need to access it. This is just an ABD letting you deposit and withdraw cash, so you could trim a few seconds off and have it just outside Resident Services, or pop it next door to Nook’s Cranny.
How to unlock the outdoor Storage Sheds
The Storage Sheds are not unlocked automatically, but instead are tied more closely to your progression through the game. You will need to have a fully upgraded home with a top floor and basement, but that’s not all. You will have to buy the first of the new version 2.0 expanded storage options from Tom Nook. This will cost you a cool 500,000 Bells and has to be paid for up front. Don’t have the cash? Well, maybe you need to playing to Stalk Market this coming week?
Upgrade your home storage to unlock the sheds.
The storage upgrade will be ready for the next day, at which point you’ll receive a note in the mail to say that it’s been completed and that there’s new storage sheds available to you.
There’s two ways to get a storage shed:
- Buy the metal storage shed using Nook Miles at the Nook Stop terminal (6,000 Nook Miles).
- Buy the wooden storage shed DIY recipe using Nook Miles (6,000 Nook Miles) and then craft it.
If you’re in a hurry, then the latter option will be quicker for anyone with a lot of spare wood in their home storage.
To craft the wooden storage shed, you’re going to need 30 Hard Wood, 30 Wood, 30 Soft Wood and 10 Iron Nuggets. That’s quite a lot!
Crafting a wooden storage shed needs a lot of wood.
Where to put the outdoor Storage Sheds?
With storage sheds in inventory, the next question is where best to put it? Well, near to where you expect to use it, basically. If you have a fixed farming set up for cooking DIY, if you’re renovating a part of your island, or simply want a handy drop-off point before stepping onto a plane or boat, this will help decide where you put them.
Additionally, you can always carry a storage shed around in your inventory and then place it for on-the-go access to your full home storage. Like a witch’s handbag!
