How To Start And Win Races – Splitgate

Quick Links

Splitgate is the hot new shooter, and for good reason. This creative blend of the gameplay mechanics you see in Portal and Halo results in a refreshing new shooter that allows you to feel accomplished with smart play, instead of just sheer skill.

Though, if you want to flex that skill, there's more than just shooting to be done. Thanks to the unique flight and gravity mechanics, combined with portals, you can traverse maps in incredibly creative ways. The devs knew this from the start, and have added Races to the game. These aren't races against other players, but instead timed tracks around the game's various maps where you have to collect orbs in a set order. Smart use of portals can shave off massive amounts of time, and if you compare your first run to the top of the leaderboards, you'll instantly know what we mean.

In this guide we're going to be breaking down exactly how you can compete in Races, and what kind of rewards you can expect for doing so in Splitgate.

How To Participate In Races In Splitgate

Races in Splitgate don't have their own menu screen – it's not surprising that so many people can't find out how to access them. On the main menu, use L1 and R1 to flick through the menu panels until you reach the Training menu. The first option is Races.

Currently there are no events happening, like the recent Olympus Race, but short limited-time events which involve races will pop up regularly, asking players to compete for the best times to earn prizes and complete challenges.

Even if there is no relevant event pushing you to try out the races, you should still give them a shot. You can go into a Race Training mode and try out any of the maps in the game, each of which has its own orb layout for you to chase. They're all smartly placed, meaning that with portal use, you can zip around the map incredibly quickly.

How To Win Races Faster In Splitgate

As mentioned twice already in this guide, portal use is the primary way to navigate Splitgate's various maps efficiently, so before anything else, you need to learn how to use portals effectively. Remember, there's no limit to how far you can shoot a portal, meaning as long as a wall you can use is in sight, you should be able to go quite the distance very easily.

But more important than portals, is knowledge. The layout of where to find each orb might be confusing at first, and only trial and error will make them easier to find. Your first run of any given map will probably be very slow and tedious, but subsequent runs will go so much faster, just because you know where to find the orbs in advance. Keep testing your skills against the various Races in Splitgate, and you'll soon find yourself climbing the leaderboards.
