Konosuba: 10 Worst Mistakes Made By Kazuma’s Party

As far as isekai anime go, Konosuba is one of the most unconventional. It's mostly a parody of the genre and as such, most of its characters exist to provide a never-ending stream of laughter for 20+ minutes per episode. Too bad its heroes, Kazuma and friends, aren't aware that they're in a hilariously cruel joke world that keeps preventing them from having too much comfort.

As a result, each of Kazuma, Aqua, Megumin, and Darkness' adventures are usually one blunder after another. It's all in good fun though and they still manage to scrape by, sometimes by the skin of their teeth. Consequently, that series of blunders is also what gives color and fun to the series, so much so that it's getting a third season. It's time to look back at team Kazuma's greatest hits before Konosuba Season 3 lands. to make the list shorter, the movie events are excluded.

Getting eaten by frogs

  • As seen in Season 1, Episode 1

Even as early as the first two or three episodes, Kazuma and Aqua's duo had their first taste of embarrassment. The catastrophic couple went out on their first supposedly low-level quest. That is to clear up some frog infestation, except the frogs are all gigantic carnivores. They ended up swallowing Aqua whole and she would have died if it weren't for Kazuma's grit and persistence. While they did somewhat succeed on their mission, Aqua being a liability in that quest could have ended their stint in their RPG world.

Megumin's explosion training

  • As seen in Season 1, Episode 4

As soon as Megumin joined the party, they finally were able to complete some tasks that needed a bit of magical damage. However, Megumin was a one-trick pony and needed more practice it seems, even if that practice didn't do much for her stamina in casting her explosion spell.

And practice she did, except her training dummy, a seemingly abandoned castle, turned out to be a dark lord's fortress. This inadvertently led one of the Devil King's generals to the poor little town of Axel. The disgruntled headless general even sought to punish and curse the whole town just for Megumin's carelessness.

Stealing and selling Kyouya's sword

  • As seen in Season 1, Episode 5

Turns out not all adventurers in Konosuba's RPG world are seedy lechers like Kazuma. Some of them are narcissistic cliched heroes like Kyouya. As pompous as Kyouya is, however, he's actually competent against the Devil King's forces. In fact, his sword and expertise are key to defeating the Devil King conventionally. Then along came Kazuma and took that sword. To add insult to injury, Kazuma also sold the stolen sword. In his defense, he needed the money more than the sword. Plus, he also didn't know just how important the weapon was against the war with the Devil King.

Flooding the whole town of Axel

  • As seen in Season 1, Episode 6

Thanks to Megumin's training, Verdia, the Devil King's general, ended up assaulting the whole town of Axel. Of course, Kazuma and his party had to make amends and at the forefront of that atonement is Aqua who vanquished Verdia with her holy spells.

Too bad her holy spell involved raining down an ocean's worth of holy water to the town of Axel. While Aqua was instrumental in defeating Verdia, she was also responsible for destroying Axel's defenses. Thus, all the rewards they received for defeating Verdia went down the drain.

Destroying a noble's mansion

  • As seen in Season 1, Episode 10

It's customary in Konosuba for each season to end with a semi-serious bang where Kazuma's party straightens themselves out for some epic clutch moves against dark and evil forces. This led to the party defeating a Destroyer where their combined skills, spells, and deviant dynamics managed to overcome the overwhelming opponent. It was a good fight indeed and the execution would have been perfect. Sadly, Kazuma ended up destroying a noble's mansion near Axel after teleporting the exploding Destroyer to someplace random. For this, he was tried and nearly executed.

Nearly killing Wiz

  • As seen in Seasons 1 & 2

Wiz was one of the oddest characters in the series and that's saying something in an anime full of dysfunctional misfits. She was evil but eventually became a tame shopkeeper– a clueless one at that. Still, Wiz is now a gentle soul in the show and even tolerates all of Kazuma's party's mishaps involving her.

Certain party members such as Aqua are aware of her lethality against Wiz. That doesn't stop Aqua from carelessly flailing around her holy spells some of which nearly erase Wiz's existence. This has happened multiple times in both seasons of the series and it probably will occur again moving forward.

Attracting Running Kite Hawks & Zombies

  • As seen in Season 2, Episodes 7 & 8

This cascade of woes was brought to the viewers by Megumin, Darkness, and Aqua. Megumin insisted that the party head somewhere far so that Kazuma can heal his injuries. During the travel, Darkness' special armor attracted Running Kite Hawks, all of which the party was forced to fight. Afterward, Aqua's cleansing spells and holy aura attracted some zombies to their caravan. Kazuma then had to spend the whole journey apologizing and feeling guilty for his party members' actions. So much for some R&R.

Visiting Alcanretia

  • As seen in Season 2, Episode 8

When Kazuma and company finally arrived at their R&R destination, it turned out to be a miserable experience. The town of Alcanretia, also known as the town of holy water hot springs, was teeming with members of the cult of Axis. They all worship Aqua and they're all annoying by Kazuma's standards.

Every one citizen in Alcanretia kept trying to compel Kazuma into joining their cult. In the end, Kazuma barely got his well-earned healing. Moreover, the town nearly lynched them after Aqua ruined the locale's main selling point. More on that later.

Aqua's purification shenanigans

  • As seen in Seasons 1 & 2

One would think that Aqua would have learned from her mistakes after using too much of her auras and purification spells but she didn't change much. She remained gung-ho with her magic and while it has saved lives (as in brought back the dead), it also caused problems for the living. In one episode where they had to purge a lich's chambers, Aqua's aura kept attracting undead, nearly causing death for her and Kazuma. Several episodes after that, Aqua also ruined Alcanretia's tourism by turning the holy hot springs into normal water. Oh, and she also destroyed Axel's walls, as mentioned earlier.

Getting Kazuma killed multiple times

The funny thing about most of the party's blunders is that Aqua, Megumin, and Darkness usually don't suffer for their mistakes. It's mostly Kazuma who catches the bullets reluctantly. Throughout the show, he has died at least thrice. Once was when he was beheaded by some frost samurai. The other because he fell off a tree. In the Season 2 finale, he also got dissolved by a slime. It was only through Aqua's stubbornness and disrespect for the goddess Eris that Kazuma was brought back. If anything, that death count is about to increase even further as Kazuma pulls a Re: Zero but without a straight face.
