Even if you haven't played Mass Effect, you know the Mako is bad. That is a fact of life. Even if you liked it, you actually hated it. Even if you haven't used it at all, you hated it too. It's just one of those things.
Well, that was until now. The launch of Mass Effect Legendary Edition earlier this year has caused a lot of fans to challenge some previously held beliefs. So while the Mako is pretty rough, some fans are now coming to a different conclusion: Mass Effect 2's Hammerhead is actually way worse.

The debate kicked off over on r/MassEffect, with a thread titled: Hot take: "The Hammerhead is garbage. Mako > Hammerhead". In the initial post, user ASourKraut outlines their reasons for hating Mass Effect's second attempt at a vehicle more than the first, fully anticipating everyone to disagree. However, they later edited the post to downgrade the hot take to "lukewarm at best", because it turns out a whole lot of fans actually agreed.

"The Hammerhead is basically the worst. I love the Mako and did even before they 'fixed' it in the [Legendary Edition]. It's trash, but it's good trash that climbs mountains and can body slam a geth Armature.", says ScarboroughFairs. Branitone agrees, replying: "One of my fav things about ME1 was just running geth the fuck over. Good times"
Further criticising the Hammerhead's implementation in the second game, Oldwise says, "It allows you to see some aesthetically pleasing views but other than that it's an awful experience. Playing that on insanity just becomes a game of popping out to shoot turrets for 2-3 seconds followed by hiding till your health is 'full' again." Overall, many feel as if the Firewalker missions are a waste of time, and the Overlord DLC would have been better without the vehicle at all.
Common complaints about the Hammerhead include its low health, as well as the fact you can't even see the health bar. Despite this, the Hammerhead is given some combat orientated levels – which it simply isn't built for.
Most interestingly, the thread is also full of comments praising Mass Effect: Andromeda's Nomad vehicle as the best of the bunch. It isn't often you see anything about Andromeda receiving praise in the fanbase (although it has its fans), so it just goes to show that in time, anything can change.
