Metal Gear Solid 5 Servers Shutting Down On PS3 And Xbox 360

Konami has just announced that the end has come to Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. At least, the end on PS3 and Xbox 360 anyway.

The online servers for Metal Gear Solid 5 will be shutting down for good on May 31, 2022 on PS3 and Xbox 360, according to a recent info alert from Konami. Players will no longer be able to make in-game purchases on the two platforms starting today, and will no longer be able to purchase DLC as of November 30.

On March 1, 2022, Konami will pull Metal Gear Solid 5 from the PS3 and Xbox 360 storefronts, and on May 31, 2022, Konami will shut down the Metal Gear Solid 5 servers. Again, only on PS3 and Xbox 360. Also, the main game will still be playable solo after May 31, but Metal Gear Online will be unplayable on PS3 and Xbox 360 by the end of next May. No refunds will be offered.

To be fair, there are probably not all that many functional Xbox 360s left in the world, and probably not too many players are still grinding away at Metal Gear Solid 5 on PS3. The vast majority of players are on PS4, and if you’re still on PS3, maybe now’s the time to make the leap to 2013’s hit console?

In more current Metal Gear news, upcoming Solid Snake star Oscar Isaac recently revealed what made him so excited to play Snake in the coming film adaptation.

"I just loved the game," Isaac told Total Fim in an interview. "Love the feeling that the game would give me every time I’d play. It’s just a strangely isolated, mournful, lonely game to play that has these incredible moments of violence and terror, with these weird, psychedelic concepts and villains."

We still don’t know when Metal Gear will make it to the big screen, but we’re hopeful that Isaac will do Snake a solid.
