Metroids No Longer Exist as of Metroid Dread

Metroid Dread is slowly approaching its October 8 release date, but in the meanwhile Nintendo is filling fans in with all sorts of info about the game and the Metroid series. To help do this, the company has launched something called the Metroid Dread Report. In it, Nintendo breaks down a variety of different bits of information that fans will find interesting. In volume three of the report, for instance, it’s revealed that at the time of Metroid Dread, the nominal species no longer exist:

Samus was sent to planet SR388 by the Galactic Federation on a mission to eradicate the Metroid. She successfully accomplished her mission and returned with a Metroid hatchling in tow. As Samus was the first creature the hatchling saw, the “baby Metroid” imprinted onto her and believed Samus to be its mother. Soon after, however, this Metroid would become a source of conflict with the Space Pirates. In an ensuing battle, this Metroid would bravely sacrifice itself to save Samus. The species would go completely extinct after one of Samus’s later missions.

By the time of the Metroid Dread game’s events, the Metroid species no longer exists.

These reports are packed with information that series newbies will want to become familiar with leading up to Metroid Dread’s launch. Even for series veterans there’s a lot of fun to be had pouring over the contents of these reports. They’re worth a look as a refresher for those who might have forgotten the ins and outs of each game’s story line. You can continue to keep track of the Metroid Dread Report at the link below.
