Be Careful With Chests

The Minecraft 1.16.2 update has arrived, and it's bringing with it a new mob: the Piglin Brute is coming to the Nether, making it harder than ever to make it out of this deadly dimension alive with your newly-found loot.

Minecraft has most recently released a major update to the Nether, completely retooling the first extra dimension added to the game. The Nether allows players to travel in compressed space; one block in the Nether is equivalent to eight blocks in the real world.

The recent Nether Update has added in a bunch of new content including new Nether biomes, a ton of new mobs (many of them Piglins), and much more. Now, one more baddie is joining their roster — and it's after anyone who's keen on pillaging the Nether.

What's New in the Minecraft 1.16.2 Update?

The first major addition in the Minecraft 1.16.2 update is the new Piglin Brute mob. These are stronger versions of Piglins that live within Bastions and protect the treasures If you're thinking about distracting them with shiny gold, don't bother — they have no fear. They'll attack you on sight, so you had better be prepared to battle.

Making things worse, Piglins are also getting a bit of a tweak. Piglins will now become angry if a player opens or destroys a Chest Minecart. The new Nether was already pretty challenging, but this new update just made things a little bit more difficult.

A new, tougher mob is the only new addition. Mojang has added a couple new accessibility features to make the game a bit easier on the eyes. Distortion effects like Nausea and the Nether portal transition can be reduced; in the former case, the nausea effect is replaced with a green-colored overlay instead of wavy lines. Field of view effects (applied when you boost your speed with potions or other methods) can now also be reduced.

These are far from the only new additions to the game; read the full Minecraft 1.16.2 update patch notes for all the fine details. You can enjoy a fight against this new, tougher mob on Minecraft's Java Edition right now. If you don't yet already own the game, you can buy it on the Minecraft website for $26.95 or your regional equivalent.
