With Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl only a few months away, the fans of the series' fourth generation are notably ecstatic after waiting so long for the remakes. As many fans have pulled out their copies of the originals to play as they wait, one gamer with some technical talent found an old Pokedex toy he happened to have and turned it into a fully functional DS Lite.
As Pokemon has seen plenty of success over the years, naturally the series has also made a fair deal of toys to entertain its players. A popular toy across the decades has been toy Pokedexes, made to match every design the device has had across the regions.

Reddit user tomvdcr happened to have a toy Sinnoh Pokedex made by Jaxx Pacific lying around, and with his knowledge of how to mod DS Lites into Game Boy and GBA shells, decided to give it a shot. The results are nothing less than stunning, as a video shows the newly modded Pokedex DS booting up and running Pokemon Diamond with no issues. The modded toy is even capable of touch screen features and volume control. The modder even took the time to also make a Game Boy Advance cartridge slot, showing off that the custom device can even play Pokemon Sapphire just fine.

Fans are wowed by not only how well the device works, but how good it looks. The parts for the Nintendo DS Lite fit snug in the Pokedex casing, making it one incredible and special console. Some have questioned why Nintendo didn't think of this back when the first Diamond and Pearl games came out, wishing that the DS was officially for sale.
It does beg the question as to why Nintendo hasn't tried making more customized Pokemon consoles rather than just the standard variations like the Switch featuring Dialga and Palkia. Though, at the end of the day, that may be the best for fans as further customized consoles might lead to a bigger price.
Regardless, the Pokedex DS Lite is a resounding success on the modder's end, and for any players wanting to see the device be made, tomvdcr has said he has an Instagram under the same username with images on how it was built. When asked if this talented modder has any other projects, he's answered that he's going to be taking a break to beat Sinnoh's gyms "in style."
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are set to launch for the Nintendo Switch on November 19th.
