Nintendo Switch Worldwide Shipments Hit 61.44 Million Units

Though the Switch has had an unusually lean year as far as major new releases are concerned, a combination of sheer momentum and the magnitude of the few big games it has received this year has continued to propel its sales. In their recent quarterly financial briefing, Nintendo shared new figures for the hybrid system, and it continues to impress.

As of June 30, 2020, the Nintendo Switch has sold 61.44 million units worldwide, up from 55.77 million at the end of the previous quarter. During the current fiscal year’s first quarter (April – June), it shipped 5.68 million units, which represents a year-over-year growth of 166.6%. 3.05 million of these were regular Switch models, while the remaining 2.62 million units were Nintendo Switch Lite systems.

Those are pretty impressive numbers, especially considering the fact that for a good chunk of this previous quarter, Nintendo was facing stock shortages due to manufacturing issues arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.

In fact, this is something Nintendo addressed in their recent financial meet specifically, saying that though there were “some difficulties in procuring the parts required” for manufacturing, at this stage, “the situation has almost recovered.”
