Oddworld: Soulstorm, a reimagining of Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus, is out today. Ahead of this, Oddworld Inhabitants co-founder Lorne Lanning detailed what we could expect. The various endings that could be unlocked based on one’s Quarma score have already been detailed but Lanning also revealed how many Mudokons could be saved.
All in all, there are “nearly” 1,400 Mudokons that you can rescue throughout. Along with following Abe, the Mudokons can also be placed “around a level to lie in wait as active agents that can offer protection.” This allows them to act either defensively or offensively depending one’s needs. There’s Level Select, which is unlocked after beating the game. It allows for replaying past levels and improving your Quarma score, earning additional badges and eventually getting the best ending.
The twist is that there are no save points in Level Select. You’ll respawn at a checkpoint upon dying but you need to complete the level for the score and badges to count. If you succeed, then you can upload the resulting Quarma score to the leaderboards and see how it ranks against other players.
Oddworld: Soulstorm available for PS4, PS5 and PC with PlayStation Plus subscribers getting the PS5 version for free. Stay tuned for more details on it in the coming days.
