Gamescom’s Opening Night Live may be over, but the game announcements are still coming. Following Gamescom’s main event and its major announcements, a number of smaller games have been getting their reveals during the post-show, including the reveal of Pharaoh: A New Era, a remake of the ancient Egyptian city-builder game Pharaoh.

For the relative newcomers to city-builder games out there, the original version of Pharaoh was released in 1999, developed by Impressions Games. Since then, it’s gone down as one of the best city-building games of all time, and today it was revealed that Dotemu, developer of such retro revivals as Streets of Rage 4 and Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, is in charge of reviving it for the modern-day.

The reveal trailer for Pharaoh: A New Era mainly consists of a lush animated cinematic that focuses on ancient Egypt at the height of its prosperity, with only a screenshot of the game’s updated visuals showing up at the end. Luckily, IGN has a few more substantial details, revealing that Pharaoh is being rebuilt from the ground up with brand new code. In addition to improved graphics, players will also have a brand new UI and a variety of improved mechanics to look forward to.

Furthermore, IGN says A New Era will bundle the base game with its 2000 expansion, Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile, offering 53 missions set across multiple ages of Egyptian history. Rounding things out will be a Free Build mode and a map and mission editor, which should offer plenty of content for anyone who’s hungry for a new city-builder game.
