Playground Games To Bolster Forza Horizon 5 Accessibility With Sign Language

Accessibility has always been a hot topic in the gaming world, and it makes sense that one of the biggest games right now is doing more for the different gamers out there. Playground Games, developers of the acclaimed Forza Horizon 5, has announced its plans to add sign language support for cutscenes to improve the game’s accessibility features.

The news comes via an Xbox News Wire post, with creative director Mike Brown emphasizing the team’s commitment to accessibility throughout the development of Forza Horizon 5.

“We believe that designing for the billions of people on this planet starts with designing for just one and extending to many, and that accessibility should be considered from the very start of product design. We are committed to providing resources and support to make it easy to build accessibility into gaming,” Brown explained.

As such, an upcoming update will see the fruits of the team’s labour of working on American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL) support for cinematics in Forza Horizon 5. This will then add a picture-in-picture display near the bottom of the screen of an ASL/BSL interpreter when cinematics are played.

There is no doubt that Forza Horizon 5 already has some robust accessibility features, such as speed adjustments, high contrast and color blindness modes, customizable subtitles, and much more. The new sign language support is yet another great step towards inclusive gaming for everyone.
