Pokemon GO: Golurk Weakness and Counters | Game Rant

Pokemon GO Fest 2021 is over, but trainers are still benefitting from it through the Ultra Unlock Time Event. Pokemon GO players smashed all 8 challenges over the two GO Fest days, and as well as receiving additional field and special research, they have increased spawn rates for certain Pokemon. Along with a Legendary Dialga Raid, Golurk is available as a 3-star Raid Boss until the Time Event ends on August 3, 8pm local time.

Golurk isn't a heavy hitter for PVP or raids in Pokemon GO, but he is very rare to encounter. Trainers hoping to add Pokedex entries should take advantage of its inclusion in the special event. To easily take down this boss, players should build a team with good counters to take advantage of Golurk's weaknesses.

Golurk is a Ground/Ghost-type Pokemon, so it has a weakness to Water, Dark, Ice, Grass and Ghost moves. There are a number of great Pokemon and movesets to use against the rare encounter in Pokemon GO, including:

  • Darmanitan (Galarian Zen) with Ice Fang (Quick Move) and Avalanche, or Ice Punch (Charged Move)
  • Mega Gengar or Gengar with Lick, Shadow Claw, Hex (Quick Move) and Shadow Ball (Charged Move)
  • Darkrai with Snarl (Quick Move) and Shadow Ball or Dark Pulse (Charged Move)
  • Kyurem (Black) with Shadow Claw (Quick Move) and Blizzard (Charged Move)
  • Chandelure with Hex (Quick Move) and Shadow Ball (Charged Move)
  • Kingler with Bubble (Quick Move) and Crabhammer (Charged Move)
  • Mewtwo with Psychocut or Confusion (Quick Move) and Shadow Ball (Charged Move)
  • Kyogre with Waterfall (Quick Move) and Hydro Pump (Charged Move)
  • Yveltal with Bite (Quick Move) and Hydro Pump (Charged Move)

Other great counters for Golurk take advantage of the enhanced Mega Evolutions of some Pokemon. If trainers have a Mega Blastoise, Gyarados, Venusaur, Houndoom or Abomasnow with a type-advantage moveset, they can make quick work of Golurk. The regular versions of these Pokemon also work well against the Ground/Ghost-type, but having a Mega version and a high enough CP and IV can turn Golurk into a solo Raid Boss. Shadow versions of good Water, Dark, Ice, Grass and Ghost Pokemon are also preferable over their regular forms.

A quick way to check if players have a decent team to go against Golurk with is to search for @Shadow Ball, @Hydro Cannon, @Hydro Pump, @Avalanche, @Dark Pulse, and @Crunch. Sorting by CP and choosing the top 6 Pokemon that appear should easily take down Golurk solo. Trainers can use this easy method to quickly search for counters to any Raid, which will be useful when battling the many Raid Bosses available in the upcoming August events.
