Pokemon Unite is a MOBA that gives Pokemon fans the chance to battle alongside their favorite creatures in a brand new way. Many returning Pokemon are playable in Pokemon Unite, including some unforgettable fan favorites. Some Pokemon veterans will be pleased to find out that their old partners are still just as reliable in the latest series spinoff. Such is the case with Snorlax, one of the game's best Defenders. This guide will help players learn how to make effective Snorlax builds in Pokemon Unite.
Snorlax is certainly one of the better-known Pokemon in the franchise. For being a notorious nuisance in the early games and a frequent sidekick in the original anime, Snorlax is undeniably famous. The giant's popularity has even spawned massive Snorlax plushies that were available for purchase in the past.
In Pokemon Unite, fans of Snorlax can rejoice at the fact that the former roadblock is one of the first Defender types that players can choose. Not only that, but it is perhaps the best Defender currently in the game.

Pokemon start with two basic Moves that they can use during a match. Snorlax's first Move is Tackle, which is upgraded to one of two more advanced techniques at Lv. 6. Snorlax's second Move is Rest, which is upgraded to one of two more advanced techniques at Lv. 8. The upgraded Moves that players should choose for Snorlax are as follows:
- Tackle -> Heavy Slam – Damages and knocks back opposing Pokemon in an area-of-effect around Snorlax.
- Rest -> Block – Creates a wall that holds back opposing Pokemon and knocks them back upon contact.
Hold Items are a mainstay of the Pokemon series, and that holds true in Pokemon Unite. Players who increase their trainer level will eventually be able to give their Pokemon three items to hold during battle, and it's possible to upgrade items in Pokemon Unite as well. The best Hold Items to maximize Snorlax's usefulness are as follows:
- Leftovers – Recovers HP when out of combat.
- Rocky Helmet – Upon receiving a certain amount of damage, opposing Pokemon will also be damaged.
- Assault Vest – When out of combat, grants a shield that nullifies some Sp. Atk damage.
For the additional Battle Item, the best option for Snorlax is the Eject Button. Snorlax is slow compared to other Pokemon, but it will need to have a way to quickly get in front of its allies to stave off attacks with the Block ability.
Snorlax is a Melee Defender. While Supporter players can use a good Wigglytuff build, for example, to help the team with ally buffs and enemy debuffs, Defenders contribute by simply standing in front to mitigate damage. Snorlax's Moves serve to shove enemies away from the allied team or to hinder the opposition with a wall or with its own body. The Hold Items that have been chosen for Snorlax effectively increase its survivability and make the most of all the damage that the Defender will receive.
The most important thing for a Snorlax player is never to be alone. Snorlax should always accompany its allies when pushing against the opposing team or wild Pokemon like Drednaw. Being a team player and acting to fulfill a Pokemon's role is the only way to increase the odds of victory.
Pokemon Unite is available now for Nintendo Switch, with a mobile version in the works.
