Sony has released the latest PlayStation 5 update, version 21.01-03.21.00. According to patch notes on the PS5, the sole focus of the update is to improve system performance.
The update is rolling out now for all PS5 users, and will take up 902 MB of memory. If your console is currently in rest mode, the update should have started automatically and be completed next time you play. Otherwise, it should either start next time you boot up, or when you manually trigger it from system settings.

The last major firmware update for the console was almost exactly a month ago, with version 21.01-03.20.00. This update focussed on improvements to the DualSense 5 controller, fixing a bug with the battery life display. While this latest update sounds much vaguer, it's worth noting that the changes to the controller were not specifically set out in the patch notes last time around, so it's possible that there's some hidden changes not set out by Sony just yet.
As always, caution is recommended when having automatic updates turned on for PS5. Fans have reported that ongoing Returnal runs have been forcibly restarted due to system updates, in order for the game to apply any changes. For this reason, some recommend that you have automatic updates switched off, and manually start them from the settings menu.
