Red Dead Redemption 2 DLSS "Accelerates Performance By Up To 45% At 4K"

Red Dead Redemption 2's DLSS update is now available on PC. After enabling the feature through the Settings menu, you'll experience performance boosts of "up to 45% at 4K," giving you a chance to turn up different graphics settings and run through the best-looking version of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online currently available.

If you're unfamiliar with the term, DLSS is an AI-based upscaling technology that provides a significant performance boost when enabled. In short, it allows you to crank up the graphics settings without damaging your frame rate.

As Nvidia puts it, "[DLSS is] a groundbreaking AI rendering technology that increases graphics performance using dedicated Tensor Core AI processors on GeForce RTX GPUs, without compromising image quality.

"In Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online, NVIDIA DLSS is enabled in the Settings menu, under Graphics, and accelerates performance by up to 45% at 4K, giving GeForce gamers the headroom to crank up effects, or simply enjoy Red Dead Redemption 2’s captivating gameplay at faster frame rates."

The Red Dead Redemption 2 DLSS update was accompanied by a new trailer, showing off the improvements in frame rate brought forth by Nvidia's cutting-edge technology.

At the time of writing, nearly 60 games support Nvidia DLSS, with the company working to bring it to more titles in the future. In fact, Nvidia said it has "many more implementations waiting in the wings to be announced and released in the coming weeks and months." As to what those could possibly be, we'll just have to wait and see.

In other Red Dead news, one biology teacher has taken to using the game to teach natural history – not a bad idea, considering the deep ecosystems at play in its sprawling world. We also recently heard from a Red Dead Redemption player that uses the game to help write poetry.

If you happen to play RDR2 or Red Dead Online on PC, be sure to check out the new DLSS features in the Settings menu.
