Reggie Fils-Aime’s Autobiography Talks About Nintendo And His Rise To The Top

Reggie Fils-Aime will be immortalised in gaming lore thanks to his E3 2004 ‘kicking ass and taking names’ speech. That was one of his first major appearances representing Nintendo, and boy, did it leave an impression. Reggie is also credited by many for helping Nintendo reach out to future generations thanks to his vision as the head of Nintendo of America. And now, we’re going to see how he did it thanks to his upcoming autobiography.

Titled Disrupting the Game: From the Bronx to the Top of Nintendo, the book will be released on May 24, 2022 and talk about how Reggie rose up the ranks to become the President of Nintendo’s American branch. According to the book’s description on Amazon, Reggie “shares leadership lessons and inspiring stories from his unlikely rise to the top. He mastered these lessons to build a long and storied career, and you too can leverage these lessons to springboard your own ultimate success and happiness.”

Besides illustrating Reggie’s journey, the book also seems to delve on self-help subjects like how to leverage disruptive thinking and finding life-choices that will make you happy. It also talks about conquering negative perception by people who dismiss you and mastering the values it takes to succeed in business and life.

Hopefully, the book will also contain anecdotes from Reggie’s time at Nintendo. It would be great to hear stories about the company’s endearing, and sometimes silly, E3 and Nintendo Direct presentations. Reggie often featured in those presentations, and many a time left us with a meme-worthy quote or antic.

Reggie has made a few appearances in the news since his retirement. Besides the occasional presenter appearances at events, he was also appointed to the GameStop board of directors during the time when the company was downsizing dramatically; a role he left after a year.

As for Nintendo, the company recently launched a new version of it's handheld console. The Switch OLED features a seven-inch OLED screen with 1280x720p resolution and 64GB of memory. It also sports a wider and sturdier flap instead of the flimsy stand featured in the original model. It will launch on October 8, 2021.
