Resident Evil 8 was announced a few months back at the PlayStation 5 Reveal Event, with the game’s appearance at the PlayStation-focused show coming as a surprise to some fans of the series. Players interested in learning more about Resident Evil 8 will have the chance soon as the game is set to appear at this year’s Tokyo Game Show.

Today, Capcom’s official developer Twitter account shared that the game would be a major part of its showcase at the event. The developers also apologized for the lack of new info in August, with the Resident Evil 8 reveal trailer being all fans have had to analyze and get excited over for the newest mainline entry in the series.

The game is a direct sequel to the seventh Resident Evil game, which sold extremely well in the long run. The game will be keeping RE7 protagonist Ethan Winters as the player-controlled character within the main story. The first-person perspective from RE7 also sticks, showing that Capcom is doubling down on the smart strategy of first person for new entries in the series and third person for remakes. Chris Redfield returned at the end of the trailer as well, which was no doubt an exciting moment for longtime fans of Resident Evil.

Chris is looking bigger in terms of body type this time around, appearing more like he was in Resident Evil 5 and RE6 than the skinnier version seen in RE7. His ever-changing size has always been a bit of the meme within the Resident Evil community, but regardless it is nice to see Chris back. After all, with the upcoming Resident Evil Netflix show featuring new characters, it is nice to see the games still focusing on fan-favorites like Chris. This time around he will hopefully show up early on as opposed to at the very end of the game to link it to the main timeline.

It will be interesting to see if Chris features in the TGS showcase for Resident Evil 8, as well as what other information is given for the game at the event. Capcom was vague within its tweet, meaning that fans could get anything from screenshots to an extended gameplay trailer. A demo for the game, like the Resident Evil 7 prequel demo, would be an extremely cool surprise for fans. Information on the leaked VR version of Resident Evil 8 would also be nice to see. Those interested can tune in Sunday, September 27th to see whatever Capcom has in store for Resident Evil 8.

For those more interested in the Resident Evil remakes, the news about Resident Evil 4 Remake having a rocky development may be more than a bit worrying. At the very least, it looks like Resident Evil 8 is moving toward its release at a steady pace.

Resident Evil 8 is releasing in 2021 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
