Resident Evil Live Action Movie Titled Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City; Based on First Two Games

Writer-director of the live-action Resident Evil movie Johannes Roberts has confirmed the title; Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

As previously reported‘ the film is being handled by Constantin Film, and focused on an origin story adaptation with “faithful ties” to the series. Constantin and Roberts note the movie is focused on the events of the first two games.

This was confirmed once again, as Roberts was interviewed at SXSW’s online event. IGN reports that the film; titled Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, is set in 1998. Showing the events of both Resident Evil (1996), and Resident Evil 2 (1998), Chris and Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Leon S. Kennedy will have to fight off the zombies besieging the mansion, police station, and city.

In earlier news, the cast of the film was confirmed. This includes Hannah John-Kamen (Jill Valentine), Kaya Scodelario (Claire Redfield), Neal McDonough (William Birkin), Donal Logue (Chief Brian Irons), Tom Hopper (Albert Wesker), Robbie Amell (Chris Redfield), Avan Jogia (Leon S. Kennedy), and Lily Gao (Ada Wong).

As part of the series’ 25th anniversary, there is also a live-action Resident Evil Netflix series in the works, focusing on the Wesker family moving into New Racoon City, and the aftermath decades later. There is also the CGI animated series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, also premiering on Netflix, where zombies assault the White House.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City premieres September 3rd.
