River City Girls 2’s New Playable Characters Have Been Revealed

WayForward has revealed some more news about River City Girls 2 today, announcing that Marian from Double Dragon and Provie from River City Ransom: Underground will be playable characters. This news comes from the official WayForward Twitter account which shared the news on Thursday, whilst also answering a number of questions from fans.

Players familiar with the Kunio-kun and Double Dragon series may be familiar with both characters, although they're a little different from their original versions. For example, Marian was originally a damsel-in-distress in the 1987 release of Double Dragon, but has since bulked up and is ready to join the fight. In fact, this new version of Marian actually appears in the first River City Girls game as a shopkeeper.

With the addition of Marian and Provie, this takes the playable character count in River City Girls 2 up to six. The first game's protagonists Misako and Kyoko have also been confirmed as playable, as have their boyfriends/love interests Kunio and Riki.

Along with the news of these new playable characters, WayForward also gave us a little bit more info by answering fan questions. According to the publisher, award-winning composer Megan McDuffee will return to do the soundtrack for River City Girls 2 and that the chances of Shantae making a cameo appearance are slim.

River City Girls 2 was announced earlier this year during E3 and is currently in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. There is no concrete release date at the time of writing, but the game is expected to launch at some point in 2022.

Thankfully, this gives those who haven't checked out the series to catch up. The first River City Girls is available for most platforms and see players take on the role of either Miskao or Kyoko as they explore River City in an attempt to find their missing boyfriends.
