Rocksteady Games Announce Suicide Squad Game, May Involve Trying to Kill Superman

Suicide Squad

WB Games and developer Rocksteady Games have announced a Suicide Squad video game, where you may have to kill Superman.

Prior to the cancellation of E3 2020, WB Games were reportedly planning to show new games. These included the previously teased new Batman game, a Harry Potter game, and a new title from Rocksteady Games. The latter has now been revealed as Suicide Squad.

For those unfamiliar, the Suicide Squad (also known as Task Force X) is a DC Comics super villain team where its members are sent on the most dangerous missions- suicide missions.

Under the watchful eye of A.R.G.U.S.’ (or other government agencies’) Amanda Waller, super villains can earn reduced time on their sentences, parole, and release. Though there have been occasions when the team’s members have been threatened to take the mission.

First appearing in 1959; members have included Deadshot, Bronze Tiger, Enchantress, Captain Boomerang, Blockbuster, The Penguin, Killer Frost, Parasite, Captain Cold, Count Vertigo, Doctor Light, Poison Ivy, The Thinker, King Shark, Rick Flag, Copperhead, Manchester Black, Clock King, Multi-Man, Mirror Master, Bane, Solomon Grundy, Cheetah, Harley Quinn, Black Manta, Deathstroke, Killer Croc, Katana, and many more.

Thanks to such a wide potential cast- essentially any DC Comics villain who could hypothetically be coerced or incentivized to work under someone else- there is wide potential in possible gameplay styles and mechanics.

The tweet from Rocksteady Games may even hint at the game’s plot. The tweet reads “Target locked – #DCFanDome – August 22. #suicidesquadgame.” The Suicide Squad logo- akin to a crosshair- is over the head of Superman.

It is entirely likely that the plot of the game will involve attempting to kill the Man of Steel. The slight sign of rubble and fire around him (and his glowing eyes showing he has just or is about to use his heat vision) may also indicate that Superman has gone berserk or evil, though this is pure speculation.

As stated in the tweet, more details will be revealed during the DC FanDome, promising to reveal upcoming information about films, games, comics and more from the DC universe.

The DC FanDome premieres August 22nd at 10 a.m. PDT via the official website. We will keep you informed as we learn more.

In earlier news, AT&T were reportedly looking to sell Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s gaming division for $4 billion USD.

UPDATE: We have seen rumors about the potential contents of the DC FanDone presentation (regarding video games), and potential domain names registered to confirm the names of several WB Games titles. We are investigating their validity and will keep you informed should they appear credible.

UPDATE 2: As the Batman: Arkham series was developed by Rocksteady Games, a post-credit scene in Batman: Arkham Origins (albeit developed by WB Games Montreal) may reveal one of the Suicide Squad members. The post-credit scene shows who could be Amanda Waller offering Deathstroke the chance to work for her, or remain in prison.

However, Batman: Arkham Origins launched in 2013. This may mean plans could have changed, with the game being scrapped and re-pitched several times. Batman: Arkham Knight launched in 2015, and featured Deathstroke having broken out of prison and allied with the Scarecrow.

If the new Suicide Squad game continues the continuity of the Batman: Arkham series, this would also contradict the rumors that the upcoming Batman game is its own universe (that Suicide Squad is also a part of). We will investigate these rumors and keep you informed.
