Roger Craig Smith Tells Fans His Return To Voice Sonic Isn’t A One-Off

Roger Craig Smith has confirmed that he'll be remaining as the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog for more than just one more game.

Roger confirmed the news when he replied to a now-deleted Tweet from Sonic Stadium that claimed that they'd heard rumours that the voice actor would only be staying as the voice of Sonic as a one-off.

WHY do you post this stuff? The "biggest and most trusted resource" posts pure gossip? I've never met this source claiming it's "one last time." I have not, nor have any of the OFFICIAL entities involved said anything resembling this.?

I'm back…period.

In response to the rumour, Roger said, "WHY do you post this stuff? The "biggest and most trusted resource" posts pure gossip? I've never met this source claiming it's "one last time." I have not, nor have any of the OFFICIAL entities involved said anything resembling this. Trust THIS source: I'm back…period."

This confirms that Roger Craig Smith will be remaining as the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog for the foreseeable future and will likely voice him in all mediums beyond the films, which should please fans who were surprised at his sudden departure last year.

The original story over at Sonic Stadium talked about an interview with Super Monkey Ball announcer Brian Matt, who said, "I’m very, very happy that our Sonic narrator has come back, he was gonna go on retirement, he came out to do [air quotes] one last job."

Roger Craig Smith has refuted both the claim that he's only coming back for "one last job", as well as saying that he's never met Brian Matt in the first place.

Sonic Stadium has since updated the story to say that Roger Craig Smith pushed back on the rumour saying, "There are many possible interpretations of Matt-Uhl’s “one last job” comment, whether he was mistaken, or if it refers to multiple future projects, or whether Sonic as a character is that “one last job” in of itself. However, at this time, it doesn’t seem like Smith has intent to leave the role in the immediate future."

The initial rumour didn't make much sense as Sega made a pretty big deal about Roger coming back to voice the character, something it presumably wouldn't have done if he was only returning for one game.
