Sledgehammer Hints At Possibility Of Developing A Non-Call of Duty Title In The Future

In a recent interview with VentureBeat, Sledgehammer COO Andy Wilson hints at the possibility of developing a non-Call of Duty game in the future. Of course, the developer is currently hard at work on the upcoming Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Andy Wilson talks about how the studio is currently invested in developing titles for Call of Duty, but naturally wants to expand beyond that. Wilson does say that it’s somewhat of a bleak possibility, but getting to see the trio of Call of Duty developers expand beyond this franchise certainly sounds intriguing for now.

“The biggest thing for our team is that we want to constantly have interesting, exciting projects to work on,” he said. “Obviously, Call of Duty is a huge pillar in the studio. It’s our primary focus, what we’re fully invested in right now. Whether there are other things in the future that we look at as well, we’ll take the time to think about all of those things. Culturally, we do that as well. We take the time to breathe occasionally and think about where we want to go.”

Call of Duty is undoubtedly the biggest and most valuable IP under parent company Activision, and its current strategy is reliant on milking it as much as possible for as long as possible. Many promising studios – most recently Toys for Bob – have succumed to Activision’s growing plans for the future of the franchise. Sledgehammer itself hasn’t developed a non Call of Duty title until now, and it’d be interesting to see how things turn out the future.
