Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 fans have been anxiously waiting for concrete news about the game. After the incredible experiences that Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales provided for fans, it's easy to see why. However, right now Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is only rumored to be in development, and there hasn’t been any confirmation for fans to grasp onto. That might be best for the anticipated title.
Spider-Man 2 runs a risk of turning into a similar situation as Spider-Man: No Way Home. It has a ton of potential to move the video game series’ story forward and people want to see it, but the difficult part is that if information about the game is released too early, fans could find themselves feeling the same conflicting sets of emotions that MCU fans have been. Spider-Man 2 has a little more leeway than No Way Home when it comes to time. While both are highly anticipated additions to their franchises, and fans would welcome an unexpected trailer release for either, Spider-Man 2 doesn’t have as much riding on it. Right now, one of the biggest things that fans are anticipating is Venom’s appearance in the next Spider-Man game.

If word on Spider-Man 2 were to be disclosed tomorrow and the game's release is two years down the line, fans could become discontent with a content drought to follow. The ability to immerse oneself in something can be a great experience. Consistent and deep content keeps people engaged whether it is movies, shows, or games. So, waiting for the right time to tease Spider-Man 2 could be the best bet right now. Time-wise, the games have been separated by about two years, and the past year has seen a lot of changes that no one expected. Rather than building up fans only to demand that they be patient, keeping things under wraps and waiting to announce Sony's potential trump card for 2022 could be the best option.
With how much the current Spider-Man franchise has to offer gamers, it isn’t worth rushing anyway. Impatience can be hard to deal with but playing through the games is a rewarding activity. As the Spider-Man franchise grows, fans will likely see how the threads between each game connect into a much larger web. This might mean that after Spider-Man 2, fans could get a No Way Home-type game with Peter learning new powers.
A video game version of the MCU isn’t a bad idea, and Spider-Man would be a great jumping-off point. The first two games have been grounded experiences that delivered deep and emotional stories. These types of narratives take time to build though, which makes the next year vital for the future of Spider-Man games.
