Splitgate’s Developers Want To Bring The Game To Mobile And Nintendo Switch

Splitgate's beta launched in July and it was only meant to span a few weeks but the boom in players and its gargantuan success means that it is still ongoing. However, the full release is aimed for this month at some point while a next-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S is in the works. Switch fans aren't being left behind though as a port for Nintendo's handheld is part of the "vision."

If you're unaware, Splitgate is a free-to-play arena shooter akin to Halo or Quake with a portal mechanic that feels ripped right out of Valve's game Portal – fititng, aye? It got so popular that fans were queing for over an hour to get into it and it managed to reach the top 20 Steam games, doubling the prior month's player count.

With all this, the developer launched a Q&A on Twitch where developer 1047 Games spoke about expanding the game's reach: "We haven't started on it, but it's absolutely part of the vision," CEO Ian Proulx stated regarding a Switch port. "Part of the vision is we want to be available on everything. We want to be available on mobile, Switch – I mean, everything."

However, cross-platform support is a "maybe" at the moment due to the heavy workload that comes with implementing this feature. So, for now, if you're Xbox, you can't partner up with your mates on PlayStation or PC.

Splitgate was originally slated for a July release but the beta's popularity has delayed it into August. Whether that sticks remains to be seen but, if it does, you'll be able to dive in on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
