Square Enix Leaks NEO The World Ends With You

Square Enix has accidentally sent download codes to a number of people who pre-ordered NEO: The World Ends With You from the Square Enix store.

ResetEra user Mickagau started a thread explaining the situation, and said that several people have been sent download codes for the Switch version of NEO: The World Ends With You, despite the fact that the game isn't supposed to come out for ten more days.

Mickagau said, "It seems some people who preordered the physical version of the game on SE NA store were accidentally sent a download code for the full game. Based on Twitter reports it was still possible to receive a code a few minutes ago. So beware of spoilers or rush to the SE store."

Following the creation of the thread, several users in the ResetEra thread reported being sent codes to the game if they went on the Square Enix Store. Curiously, the copies that are giving out download codes are actually physical versions of the game, which means that those who have ordered might end up getting two copies. People trying to order the game now to get the code early have found out that it's also limited to the US version of the store.

It's not clear if Nintendo or Square Enix can revoke these codes and limit access to the game, but even if they can it'll probably be datamined and leaked before any action is taken. The ResetEra thread has suggested that the code was likely supposed to be one of the game's pre-order bonuses, but things have clearly gone wrong and the full game has been sent out instead.

If you're interested in playing NEO: The World Ends With You, make sure you're being careful in comments sections and on Twitter, as it's likely that plot elements will start leaking out over the next few days. Several key characters were already leaked through the demo's data, so it might be best to just stay away until the game releases properly.
