This expensive oil is created with the help of pigs. In this guide, we are going to go over how to gather truffles and make truffle oil.

First, let's take a look at what truffle oil is and how much it sells for.

What Is Truffle Oil?

Truffle oil is an artisan good that can be sold for a lot of money. To make truffle oil, you will need to place one truffle in an oil maker. The quality of a truffle will not impact the price of the oil. All truffle oil will sell for 1,065g.

This price will jump to 1,491g with the Artisan Profession, which increases the sell price by 40%.

Truffle oil is needed for the Mayor's Need quest, as well. In this quest, you will need to deliver one truffle oil to Mayor Lewis. In return, you will receive 750g and one friendship heart.

In addition to the quest above, truffle oil can be donated to the Community Center to complete the Artisan Bundle in the Pantry.

Lastly, you will need truffle oil, along with hardwood and pine tar, to make the rain totem.

Purchasing A Pig

Truffle oil needs truffles, which can be found by pigs. Unlike other animal products, pigs don't actually make the truffles; instead, they forage for them.

To get a pig, you will need to purchase one from Marnie's Ranch. The ability to purchase a pig will be unlocked once you have a deluxe barn. With a deluxe barn, you will be able to get a pig for 16,000g.

Gathering Truffles

A fully matured pig will yield a random amount of truffles each day, depending on where they walk. As pigs wander around outside, they have a chance to dig up a truffle and leave it on the ground. Above, you can see several pigs and the truffles they have dug up.

The quality and number of truffles you will get depends on the pig's happiness. A pig at maximum happiness will give an average of three truffles a day.

Pigs will only be able to forage for truffles if they are outside. This means that you will not be able to get truffles during the Winter or on rainy days. Pigs will remain inside the barn and start finding truffles again during the Spring.

Truffles In An Oil Maker

Once your pig has found some truffles, it's time to turn them into truffle oil. This can be done with an oil maker.

The recipe for an oil maker will unlock at Farming Level 8 and requires the following materials:

  • 50x Slime
  • 20x Hardwood
  • 1x Gold Bar

You can place oil makers anywhere on your farm. To use it, just walk up to a truffle and interact with the oil maker. This will place the truffle inside. It will take six in-game hours to make one truffle oil.

You may already have a pig before you reach Farming Level 8. Truffles sell for a lot of money, so if you don't have access to an oil maker, you can still earn money by selling truffles. Below, you can find the prices that truffles sell for depending on their quality.

Truffle Quality Price
Normal 625g
Silver 781g
Gold 937g
Iridium 1,250g

As you can see, iridium quality truffles sell for a lot. If you don't have the Artisan profession and find an iridium quality truffle, you will make quite a bit of money selling it, so you don't necessarily need an oil maker to make quite a bit of cash from these high-value items.

That's all there is to know about truffle oil in Stardw Valley! It's fairly easy to make and is a great way to earn more money.
