Stardew Valley: How to Use Furnace | Game Rant

ConcernedApe, the developer of the indie darling farming game Stardew Valley, has kept the game going with some inventive updates for the last while. As the patches add new items, the game has also seen a fair few balances and quality of life improvements. The adjustments are nice, but it can be a little overwhelming for new and returning players. For fans looking for help with one most helpful items at the start of the game, they can look to this guide about the furnace in Stardew Valley.

On a new playthrough, farmers can get the furnace once they mine some Copper Ore. Clint will give them the recipe the next day as long as players leave their house between 6 to 11:30 AM in-game. With Clint's crafting recipe in hand, with 25 Stone and 20 Copper Ore, they can make a furnace right away.

The furnace can be used to help get all sorts of materials in Stardew Valley, smelting down ore and quartz to get bars and refined quartz. In order to smelt anything down, farmers will need at least one piece of coal no matter what they're smelting. While the materials don't change, the amount of time it takes depends on how rare the material is.

The eight items that can be smelted down lead to some of the most useful and sturdy building materials in the game. 5 Idirium Ore can net the player an Iridium Bar, for instance. A bouquet can also be quickly put in the furnace to make a wilted bouquet, which also has its own uses. For all the items fans can use the furnace for along with wait times in-game, they should check the list below.

  • Bouquet (1) to the Wilted Bouquet (1), less than 10 minutes
  • Copper Ore (5) to Copper Bar (1), 30 minutes
  • Quartz (1) to Refined Quartz (1), an hour and 30 minutes
  • Fire Quartz (1) to Refined Quartz (3), an hour and 30 minutes
  • Iron Ore (5) to Iron Bar (1), 2 hours
  • Gold Ore (5) to Gold Bar (1), 5 hours
  • Iridium Ore (5) to Iridium Bar (1), 8 hours
  • Radioactive Ore (5) to Radioactive Bar (1), 10 hours

Players should note that the hours it takes to smelt these items are specifically based on the in-game clock, so fans who need to deal with the lengthier wait times could easily start their day by firing up their furnace, or simply starting it before they retire for the night. It's worth fans' while, as even the Community Center asks for some bars for its bundles.

With the materials at farmers' disposal, they can finally build stronger and sturdier buildings like a new Silo for their farm, making sure their farm can withstand things like storms easier without exhausting resources as much, among other things. Mastering the furnace is one of the first steps fans can take towards perfecting Stardew Valley and making their dream farm.

Stardew Valley is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
