The tapper is a simple item but proves to be very useful. Tappers produce items such as maple syrup, which is useful in other crafting recipes. In this guide, we are going to go over everything you need to know about tappers. First, let's look at what they do and where you can place them.

What Is A Tapper?

A tapper is an item that you place on trees to extract syrups. To use a tapper, simply go up to a tree and place it. The tapper will stay on the tree, and a bubble will appear over it when an item is ready.

Tappers can be placed on the following trees.

  • Maple Trees
  • Oak Trees
  • Pine Trees
  • Mahogany Trees
  • Mushroom Trees

In addition to placing tappers on your farm, you can place them on trees all around the map. If you do decide to spread your tappers out, be sure to remember where you place them and check back frequently to see if any items are available.

To remove a tapper, just hit it with your axe or pickaxe. This will remove the tapper and allow you to place it somewhere else.

Tapper Recipe

Unlocking the recipe for a tapper requires you to be foraging level three. Foraging level increases as you forage every day. Activities to gain foraging experience include chopping trees and picking up foraged items off the ground.

To make a tapper, you will need the following material.

  • 40 Wood
  • 2 Copper Bars

The recipe is pretty simple, and you should be able to easily make a few tappers.

After visiting Mr. Qi's Secret Walnut Room, you will also be able to purchase the recipe for the Heavy Tapper. This is a special tapper that cuts the production time in half. You can purchase this recipe for 20 Qi Gems. To craft it, you will need 30 hardwood and a radioactive bar.

Tapper Production

In total, a tapper can produce seven different items. The items depend on the tree type, so it's good to have at least one tapper on each tree type. Below, you can find the items that tappers produce, as well as what trees they will be available from.

Item Tree Type Base Production Time
Maple Syrup Maple 9 Days
Oak Resin Oak 7-8 Days
Pine Tar Pine 5-6 Days
Sap Mahogany 1 Day
Common Mushroom Mushroom Varying
Red Mushroom Mushroom Varying
Purple Mushroom Mushroom Varying

Mushroom tappers work a bit differently. Rather than having a standard production time, it depends on the season and previous mushroom that was harvested.

In general, it will take five days for a mushroom tree to produce during Spring and Summer and two and a half days in Fall. Tappers will not produce mushrooms during the Winter. The production time for a mushroom harvested after a purple mushroom will always be two and a half days. Additionally, the type of mushroom that will be produced follows a pattern. The mushroom produced will always depend on the mushroom previously produced.

Tappers on mushroom trees may sound a bit complicated, but just know that there are three different types of mushrooms you can get, with varying production times.

That's all there is to know about tappers. Now get out there and start placing tappers!
