Stardew Valley To Host First Official Tournament With $40K Prize Pool

Stardew Valley is about to become an esport. That’s thanks to a collaboration between Stardew creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone and Twitch streamer Unsurpassable Z organizing a tournament that will test the “skill, knowledge, and teamwork” of some of the best Stardew players in the world.

The tournament will appropriately be called the Stardew Valley Cup, and it even has a great pixelated trophy for the trailer. ConcernedApe gave us a good overview of the tournament over on Twitter and even told us when the main event will drop, but it's Unsurpassable Z who gives us the full breakdown of just what this tournament entails.

The tournament will put four teams of four streamers each against one another for the chance to win the $40,000 prize pool. Scoring for each team is based on completing "over 100 challenges" that have been created by Unsurpassable Z. These challenges can range from relatively simple in-game tasks like finishing certain buildable items (like the Pantry, Fish Tank, or Boiler Room), while more difficult challenges award more points. Examples of those include getting to floor 100 in the Skull Cavern (worth 25 points) or giving a loved gift at the Feast of the Winter Star (also worth 25 points).

Teams are free to split up to complete their task in any order, so expect to see some specialization as well as some teamwork for some of the more difficult challenges.

As for the teams themselves, they’ll be composed of Stardew streamers and content creators running the gamut between speedrunners and Stardew guide creators. Many of the streamers taking part in the Stardew Valley Cup are known for their own personal challenges, such as efficiency runs where the goal is to make as much money in the shortest amount of time.

The main event will be streamed by ConcernedApe and Unsurpassable Z on September 4, 12 PM EST over on Unsurpassable Z's Twitch channel. Tune in to take part and see who takes home the Lawn Flamingo trophy.
