Steam Deck has been delayed until February, Valve has confirmed. The reason for the delay is down to supply chain issues which means there has been a global shortage of a number of components. Valve has stated it will be readjusting reservation dates due to the shipping delay. Of course, Valve will do everything it can to get the Steam Deck shipped in February, but that will be dependant on the global situation. If you have reserved one your place in line will not change, and you can check your order availability timeline on the Steam Deck store page You can check out the statement from Valve below.
“While we did our best to account for the global supply chain issues (by which we mean we factored in extra time to account for these risks and worked with multiple component vendors), our manufacturing plans were still impacted. Material shortages and delays meant that components weren’t making it to our manufacturing facilities on time. Missing parts along with logistical challenges means delayed Steam Decks, so we needed to push out shipping by two months to February. We’ll continue working to improve reservation dates based on the new timeline, and will keep folks updated as we go.”
The Steam Deck has a 7″ touchscreen for typing and swiping through the Steam UI, a pair of trackads, analogue triggers, grip buttons, two “best in class” thumbsticks and a gyro for motion controls. For storage you can choose between 64GB eMMC, 256GB NVMe SSD, or 512GB NVMe SSD, and expand that with a microSD card. The 40 watt-hour battery should provide “several hours” of playtime, but less intensive games of web browsing should increase the battery life to up to eight hours. There is a built a quick suspend / resume feature and a multi-purpose USB-C jack for charging or peripherals including an official docking station. The dock has not been revealed but will allow you to hook up the console to your TV or monitor and use it as a standard PC.
