Super Mario Bros Movie Has Found Its Foreman Spike, I Guess

Super Mario Bros: The Movie is set to launch at some point in 2022. It's an animated film about our favorite Italian goomba-squasher traveling through a labyrinth with Luigi to – you guessed it – save a princess. That's all that was known until today.

Comedian Sebastian Maniscalco accidentally revealed that he is playing none other than Foreman Spike. Have no idea who that is? Don't worry, you're not alone.

He is a foreman – shocker – but he's also a part of the Wrecking Crew who's goal was to sabotage Mario and Luigi's attempts to break into the construction market. Mario's a doctor, a plumber, a piece of paper, a time traveler, and he's even a builder. Mario does it all.

At any rate, Spike even teamed up with Bowser to try and stop the duo so maybe that's what we're seeing here. But, we don't even know if Bowser is in the film so Spike could very well be the big bad.

He's changed in appearance quite a bit since his debut. Originally, he looked a lot like Wario but, in Wrecking Crew '98, he got a makeover resulting in the look seen in this article's featured image – the mustache and red nose.

What variant we'll see in the animated movie remains to be seen but as it stands, his casting is one of the only things we know about it so far and it's a touch obscure. Perhaps Nintendo plans to rope in even more abandoned dcharacters from Mario's past. Spike has only had three appearances after all and one of those was in Mario Golf because nothing says rival like coming together to play a friendly game of golf.

Perhaps Nintendo will add him to Mario Golf: Super Rush to commemorate this momentus occasion, or maybe not. At any rate, you can (possibly) catch the Super Mario Bros film in 2022.
