Super Mario Smartwatch From TAG Heuer Will Set You Back $2,000

Expensive video games seem to be all the rage. In the past couple of days alone, a sealed copy of Super Mario 64 sold for $1.5 million, while the original, 2011 Skyrim just went for $600. Now, TAG Heuer is selling a Super Mario-themed smartwatch for $2,000.

This limited-edition smartwatch isn't just based on the aesthetics of the Italian plumber from Japan. Rather, for $2,150, you can have Mario motivate your daily walks. Your day starts with him waving his hat and saying a cheery hello. At 25 percent of your step count, he'll eat some shrooms and power up. At 50 percent, he'll come out of a warp pipe from god knows where. Then, at 75 percent, he'll become an invincible, unstoppable powerhouse after chomping on a Star. Cue 100 percent where he jumps to the top of a flagpole.

If you're in a particularly Nintendo-rich mood, you can now play some Pokemon Go while getting in your daily steps and Mario will be there to guide you. The watch itself is part of the company's Connected Wear OS smartwatch line which has a similar price tag but this variant has more red and the signature Mario "M."

A watch like no other!#Nintendo’s iconic character, Mario, is taking over the TAG Heuer Connected with a new limited edition timepiece in a daring, creative style.

Only 2000 of these watches are being produced, though, so they'll be sure to ramp up in price when the scalpers get a hold of them.

However, even if you don't manage to get one, Tag Heuer has said that this Mario-themed OS might come to its other watches in the future.

Otherwise, it's what you'd expect from a smartwatch – it has calendar functionality, the weather, Google Assistant, and all the other typical bells and whistles like… telling the time.
