Super Monkey Ball was once a wildly popular series, but it has been many a year since installments of it graced home consoles. Sega made an effort in 2019 to revive the brand with Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD, but now things are seriously heating up with this year's Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania. A remastered compilation of the first three games in the franchise, Sega is ready to reintroduce AiAi and gang to the masses and has a new trailer geared up for the occasion.
Giving us quick glimpses of the six original protagonists, this lightning-fast trailer showcases AiAi, MeeMee, Baby, GonGon, Doctor, and YanYan all careening through courses as they attempt to collect bananas and reach the goal. It's not the most exciting of reveals, but we get a decent idea of how this port is shaping up. Things look nice and crisp in HD and the expanded view afforded by higher resolutions will certainly help when blitzing across tight bridges.

More interesting than this trailer is a tease contained within Sega's official PR. "Watch out for more character announcements as new friends join AiAi and gang this summer!" states the press release. We already got a look at a Yakuza-themed ball for AiAi and co, so could we actually get a Kiryu monkey?! He would certainly fit right alongside Sonic and Tails.
Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania will hit PC and all major consoles on October 5, 2021. A free next-gen upgrade will be available on both PlayStation and Xbox.
