Terraria: How To Make A Furnace

Quick Links

The Furnace might just be one of the most important workstations in Terraria. You aren't going to get very far if you can't smelt ores into bars, as they're used to craft a bunch of weapons, armor, and various other items.

Thankfully, crafting a Furnace isn't too difficult. This short guide will cover all the materials you need to craft a Furnace, as well as moving up a level with the Hellforge into Hardmode.

How Do You Make A Furnace In Terraria?

To craft a furnace you need:

  • Twenty Stone Block
  • Four pieces of (any) wood
  • Three torches (as of the 1.4 Terraria update)

Mine the Stone, cut down some trees, craft some torches out of wood and gel, and you've got everything you need. Now you just need to craft the Furnace at a Work Bench. Simple, really. So simple, that you should do it in the first hour you play.

As of Terraria 1.4, you can now also purchase a Furnace from the Merchant when he's in the Jungle. Not a massive help, unless you're building a Jungle base, but there you go.

How Do You Smelt Things In Terraria?

Smelting things in Terraria is very simple. You just need to stand next to the Furnace and then go into your crafting menu. You will see the Bars to be smelted in the drop-down menu.

How Do You Get A Hellforge In Terraria?

Essentially an upgraded version of the Furnace, the Hellforge is required to further your progression in Terraria, smelting Hellstone Bars, and eventually the Adamantite Forge or Titanium Forge.

Hellforges can't be crafted, only found in the Underworld. They're located inside the Ruined Houses and can only be collected with a Deathbringer or Nightmare Pickaxe when they're in the Underworld. Once in your base, you can pick them up with any Pickaxe.

How Do You Get An Adamantite Or Titanium Forge?

The Adamantite and Titanium Forges are Hardmode crafting stations that you'll need to smelt bars from Adamantite, Titanium, and Chlorophyte.

Depending on which Hardmode ore you have on your world, either Adamantite or Titanium, you can craft a Forge with either. All you need is a Hellforge and 30 of the respective ores.

The Adamantite and Titanium Forges are the best Furnaces in Terraria and you will be able to craft/smelt everything possible in the game with them

Lihzahrd Furnace and Glass Kiln

These two smaller furnaces are useful in other regards. Although not able to smelt bars, they're used to craft a variety of cosmetic items.

The Lihzahrd Furnace is used to craft a bunch of Lihzahrd Furniture, like the classic and delightful Lihzahrd Toilet, the Sink, and a Sofa. The Furnace is found within the Jungle temple.

The Glass Kiln is used much like the Lihzahrd Furnace, used to make glass furniture instead. Its crafted with 18 iron bars (so lead works, too) and eight torches. You can use the Glass Kiln to craft items like Glass Beds (very comfy) and a Glass Bathtub.
