The Matrix Resurrections Gets Its First Trailer This Thursday

The Matrix 4 will be called The Matrix Resurrections, and we’re just days away from getting our first trailer. That’s according to a trailer for the trailer that Warner Bros just dropped today, as well as a new website that’s popped up for the impending film.

The trailer’s trailer shows the iconic red pill and blue pill from the first Matrix film and then confirms the real trailer will drop on Thursday, September 9. There's not a lot of actual footage, however, so for that we turn to the new Matrix Resurrections website that's popped up. It features the same red pill/blue pill from the trailer, but this time you can click on one to get a series of clips narrated by either Morpheus or what sounds like Neil Patrick Harris.

We found out from The Hollywood Reporter that the upcoming trailer will reveal The Matrix Resurrection's premise starting with Thomas Anderson in therapy. NPH plays Neo's therapist, and seems to be encouraging Neo to think of the past three films as "just dreams."

Meanwhile, Morpheus is trying to encourage you to "wake up" while mentioning that what you think of as the current time (which Morpheus reads out according to your device's actual clock) is just an illusion.

Both pills will show you a different set of clips from the upcoming trailer, so click 'em both to get a few glimpses of Matrix 4's action and just how many blue pills it takes to keep Neo down.

We know thanks to CinemaCon 2021 that Keanu is back to play Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss is back as Trinity. There's also Lambert Wilson back as the Merovingian, Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe, but no Agent Smith since he died at the end of the third film. Lana Wachowski co-wrote and directed The Matrix Resurrections while Village Roadshow Pictures is the production company.

The Matrix Resurrections is planning to release on December 22 in both theatres and HBO Max, but as with many movie releases, we'll have to see what COVID has to say about that date.
