As you progress in Astroneer, you'll quickly realize that there are countless combinations that you can use to make new items. Discovering and crafting new items is a huge part of the adventure, but some items are very difficult to get. Related: Astroneer: 10 Things You Need To Reach A Planet Core
Alloys are special resources that can only be obtained by mixing certain items in the Chemistry Lab. They are some of the hardest items to create, but they open up a whole new range of crafting possibilities that will take you from a novice astronaut to one of the best Astroneer adventurers around. This guide will cover everything that you need to know to get Alloys in Astroneer.
How To Get Aluminum Alloy In Astroneer
Aluminum Alloy is the simplest of the group, as it only requires two items to create. These are:
- Aluminum
- Copper
You get Aluminum by smelting Laterite, which is found on every planet. Copper is obtained by smelting Malachite, which can be found on mountains on Sylva and in caves on Calidor.
Aluminum Alloy is used in many important recipes throughout Astroneer, including the Large Wind Turbine, the Solid-Fuel Jump Jet, and the Large Rover. If you want to build a Rover, you can follow our guide here.
How To Get Titanium Alloy In Astroneer
Titanium Alloy is a material that you will access much later in the game, as it requires more complex components. You need to combine the following items to create Titanium Alloy:
- Titanium
- Nitrogen
- Graphene
Titanium is found as the raw material Titanite in the mountains on Vesania, or within caves on Glacio. You can smelt Titanite to create Titanium.
Nitrogen is a gas that you can obtain by using the Atmospheric Condenser on one of the following planets:
- Sylva
- Vesania
- Atrox
Since Atrox is the most dangerous planet in Astroneer, we'd recommend staying on either Sylva or Vesania whilst retrieving Nitrogen.
Graphene is a resource that you can create in the Chemistry Lab by mixing Graphite and Hydrazine. Graphite can be made easily in the Soil Centrifuge. Hydrazine is a bit more complex, as you must create it by mixing Ammonium and Hydrogen in the Chemistry Lab. Ammonium can also be made in the Soil Centrifuge, but you will need to find Hydrogen using the Atmospheric Condenser on one of the following planets:
- Sylva
- Calidor
- Vesania
- Novus
Once you have Titanium, Nitrogen, and Graphene, you can make a Titanium Alloy. It can be used to make the Large Shuttle, as well as the Nanocarbon Alloy, which we will explain below.
How To Get Nanocarbon Alloy In Astroneer
Nanocarbon Alloy is the most difficult Alloy to obtain, and one of the hardest materials to craft in the entire game. You will need the following items to make Nanocarbon Alloy:
- Steel
- Helium
- Titanium Alloy
You can get the Titanium Alloy needed by using the guide above, which just leaves Steel and Helium.
How To Get Helium In Astroneer
Helium is a gas that you can only find on Atrox, which is the most dangerous planet in Astroneer. Whilst on Atrox, you will be attacked by many plants, whilst exploration will be hampered by the treacherous terrain. The choked atmosphere will make your Oxygen deplete quicker, which could make you die quicker. The Sun and Wind levels are also low, making it difficult to get power for a base.
To get Helium, you need to set up a working base with an Atmospheric Condenser on Atrox. Then, use the Condenser to make a canister of Helium, which you can transport back to a safer planet to finish making the Nanocarbon Alloy.
How To Get Steel In Astroneer
Steel is equally tricky to obtain, as it requires a lot of resources that you won't find naturally on planets in Astroneer. You can find the full ingredient list for Steel below:
- Carbon
- Argon
- Iron
You can find Iron using our full Iron guide here. Carbon can be made by smelting Organic in a Smelting Furnace, so that is the easiest ingredient on this list.
Argon is a gas that can be found on Vesania or Glacio, so set an Atmospheric Condenser up just as you did before.
When you have all three ingredients, you can make Steel in the Chemistry Lab. You must then combine your Steel with Titanium Alloy and Helium to create Nanocarbon Alloy. This is one of the rarest resources in Astroneer. It can be used to make the Portable Oxygenator, which could allow you to get a permanent source of Oxygen when combined with certain power sources.
