Tribes Of Midgard Hits 250k Players In One Week

Tribes of Midgard is a co-op rogue-lite survival game that sees players defending villages from invaders, spirits, and giants. At the core is the Seed of Yggdrasil – "the sacred tree you're sworn to protect." If it falls, Ragnarök (the end of the world) will come to fruition. Already, it is a hit with over 250,000 players having tried it out in the first week alone, slaughtering 40,000 giants.

Developer Norsfell revealed as much on Twitter but the latter stat – the giant-killing – is particularly impressive. They have a minimum of 40,000 HP and, if they do manage to reach the village, you're practically out of time. You're best getting to them early because they tear apart that precious seed. What's worse, if there are more players, the giants have more health. They're one of the toughest enemies and have been shown off for it since day one so 40,000 being slain is quite the achievement.

For context, the game was published by Gearbox who also put out We Happy Few, Risk of Rain 2, and the Homeworld Remastered Collection. To celebrate, both the publisher Gearbox and the developer Norsfell have teamed up with One Tree Planted to plant 40,000 trees. Each giant gets its own.

If you want to dive in, you can right now. What's more, it supports up to 10 players so all of you can scurry around gathering resources to build up your villages to fend off waves of attacks.

It is currently available for £14.99 / $19.99 on Steam, PS4, and PS5.
