Unannounced XCOM Mobile Game Has Launched In Some Areas

We didn’t know it was coming, but it seems that 2K has recently launched a new XCOM mobile game. For a while, some people had seen the game but weren’t convinced that it was actually legitimate. Eurogamer was able to confirm that this is valid by speaking to a 2K spokesperson. “Iridium Starfish has soft-launched XCOM Legends in limited territories, but we have no further information to share at this time,” they told Eurogamer.

Iridium Starfish is the company listed for this game. Though this wasn’t a known company, they are linked to Take-Two Interactive Software, which is the parent company of 2K. The game was originally spotted by people earlier on, but because nothing was announced and it was only available in certain areas, people were not convinced it was a legit launch.

We now know that the game is called XCOM Legends, and it’s a turn-based RPG. In the story, XCOM is one of the last resistance groups on Earth whose goal is to liberate Earth from the alien invaders that took over the planet 20 years ago. By the time people had realized the alien threat, the war was over, and humans had already lost. Now, the aliens’ goal is to eradicate all the resistance fighters left in order to attain total domination.

XCOM Legends will have to be enough to tide us over, as we didn’t get that XCOM Marvel game content that was highly anticipated to be at E3. Firaxis’ XCOM Marvel game would be a turn-based strategy game that features the Marvel heroes and was even said to be featuring some of the well-known actors.

XCOM Legends is currently available on the Google Play store, though it says that the app is still in development and could be unstable, and it is listed as Early Access. It looks like the game is going to be actively updated, so be expecting changes if you decide to delve into the it.
