WB Games’ Future Releases Will Have “A Heavy Focus on Live Service,” As Per Job Ad

Warner Bros. have no shortage of major games coming out in the next couple of years. Historically, in recent times, their biggest releases have traditionally adopted live service models with strong post-launch support (which has unfortunately gone hand-in-hand with microtransactions as well), and that live service approach is something that’s going to continue with upcoming games as well.

A job listing in the Virtual Games Production department on the WB Games website states that the publisher is “currently involved in a variety of new projects, ranging from casual games to core games featuring our well-known franchises on all platforms”, and that these games are going to have “a heavy focus on live service.”

WB Games’ closes upcoming release is Back 4 Blood, which is out this June, and the co-op first person shooter seems like an obvious candidate for a live service model. Gotham Knights is also out some time this year, and with its co-op-centric nature, could also be well-suited to a similar model- though its developers have stated that it is not being developed as a live service game.

Meanwhile, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Hogwarts Legacy are both due out in 2022. If Injustice 3 ever releases (which will probably happen eventually), that, too, will be well-suited to a live service approach.
