There are many, MANY X-Men characters to chose from if you're a cosplayer. Everyone knows characters like Cyclops, Professor X, and Wolverine, but there are also the more unique and underrepresented characters such as Beak or Glob Herman. Then, somewhere in between, there are the characters who fans will know, but who may not be as recognizable to the general public. One of those characters is Psylocke, the character this talented fan decided to cosplay.
This cosplayer goes by the name Purplemuffinz on both Twitter and Instagram, and the photos below were taken by a photographer @FoodAndCopslay. As you can see, Purplemuffinz's rendition of Psylocke's one-piece purple suit is pretty impressive, and it even includes her signature sash and purple hair. If you browse their Instagram, you'll be treated to more impressive cosplay for comic book characters such as Harley Quinn and Catwoman.

Created by Chris Claremont and Herb Trimpe in 1976, Psylocke first appeared in the comics as Betsy Braddock, the twin sister of Brian Braddock ( a.k.a. Captain Britain). Betsy would eventually take on the mantle of Captain Britain herself before joining the X-Men as Psylocke. Originally introduced as having precognitive and telepathic abilities, Psylocke has had a variety of powers over the years, including ones gained after she was transported into the body of a ninja warrior named Kwannon (comics are weird).
While the character has had a long comic book publication history, her time on the big screen has been brief. Even though there are at least one-thousand X-Men movies, Psylocke has only appeared in two. She had a very small supporting role in X-Men: The Last Stand, where she was portrayed by Meiling Melançon, and more recently actress Olivia Munn portrayed her as a villain in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse. In that film, Munn wears a version of Psylocke's classic X-Men suit and even wields a purple psionic sword like in the comics. Munn was originally supposed to reprise the role in the follow-up film X-Men: Dark Pheonix, but sadly she was unable to do so due to scheduling conflicts with the 2018 film The Predator.
While the costume that was worn by Munn in X-Men: Apocalypse bears some similarities to the character's comic book origins, it's impressive that this cosplay is actually a far better and more accurate interpretation. It just goes to show the level of dedication that cosplayers go through for their art.
You can watch all the X-Men movies streaming on Disney Plus.
